Colored In Coloring Book Pages 1-42, 2023

·

A discovery after I made Coloring Book Pages 1-42 was incorporated into the title of that series. The shapes that had been isolated with black ink lines could be seen on their own viably as mere shape, unrelated to the photographic image of which they were a part.

So I decided to use a fine line black ink pen to ‘color in’ some of the shapes. I started with the last one, #42, not thinking that I would progress in the way I did by the time I finished with #1.

I worked steadily on them for the first twenty or so and then I was interrupted by preparations for the installation of Syntactical Shifts in November of 2023.

The series was completed on December 13, 2023. The last work of the year.

Below are slide shows in groups of ten except for the last two. They begin with #42 and end with #1, imitating the way I actually drew them.

Such an astute melding of your drawing and photography practices. Your searches in nature’s language of line and shape. (At least, that’s one way nature communicates with we humans.) The results are beautiful, Lyn.
