Liberated Form 1

Liberated Forms 1-42 evolved from the photograph series Drawing with Nature 1-100 and Drawing with Nature 101-207, which were completed in 2023. I randomly chose 42 out of the 207 because they seemed viable for moving the shapes within them.

I cannot trace back these 42 images to their original state in the two aforementioned series because they have gone through two other phases, Coloring Book Pages 1-42 and Colored In Coloring Book Pages 1-42. Each phase changed the individual images to the point where I lost their identities. I also neglected to write down their original number in the sequence of 207 because I never anticipated what was going to happen.

It took me two years to refine the Liberated Form series. Experiencing how the tools in Photoshop work was both frustrating and gratifying. Granted, I should have known how to operate the program more completely before I dove in, but I assumed I could teach myself along the way.

The auto-didact part contributed to the time it took to chase all the imperfections in the images away. Hours at my desk fulfilled my intentions, yet at the same time depressed the hell out of me. By the end of the editing process, though, I was free as a bird in how I used the tools. I stopped adhering to the idea that any image had to be correct…Correct in terms of what? Each image had sprung forth on its own.

These images will eventually reach another stage where each will have acquired a set of accompanying variations of red, yellow, blue, orange, green, violet, and gray.

The images are shown here in six groups of seven. One has to imagine them without an assigned size because sizes for display will change them.

Wonderful, Lyn. Wonderful. I look forward to seeing how they change yet again when you add color.

I too have spent hours at the computer in frustration trying to figure out a program I was sure I could easily master. Only in my case, it was Excel!

    Thanks for sharing.
